Bamlanivimab is the most recent COVID-19 therapy authorized for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 in adults and pediatric patients 12 years of age and older weighing at least 88lbs with a positive result of SARS-CoV-2 and are at high risk for progressing to severe COVID-19 and/or hospitalization. Desert Valley Hospital/Medical Group is the only facility in the High Desert to receive this advanced monoclonal antibody.
Since December 1, 2020, Desert Valley has treated dozens of patients, of which have experienced a significant reduction in COVID-19 symptoms within 24-48 hours. The treatment itself takes approximately 3-hours and is administered by intravenous (IV) infusion.
As of recently, high-risk patients were admitted to the hospital in order to qualify for other FDA approved COVID-19 therapies such as Remdesivir; however, with the FDA’s emergency approval of Bamlanivimab, patients are now able to receive treatment outpatient, preventing admission and avoiding the emergency department altogether.
